DIY Star Ornaments | Easy Craft Projects for Little Hands
Five Point Star
This simple star shape only requires three colors of construction paper, glue, scissors, string or ribbon and a hole punch. Have kids fold and cut shapes from the paper, then glue the points together at the center to form a star. Thread string through the top point and you’ll have a perfect handmade holiday decoration.
Paper Chain Garland
For a paper chain garland, cut strips of red, green and gold construction paper and glue the ends together to form loops. Children can glue the loops together end to end to create a colorful garland to drape wherever needed. String popcorn or cranberry garlands for an edible decoration.
Felt Board
Use green felt to cut a board shape and smaller star, tree, angel, candle, present and ribbon shapes. Glue the pieces onto a sturdy cardboard base to make a fun Christmas press-out board. Place underneath window for a seasonal scene or on the fridge for an interactive decoration kids can custom design.
Paper Weaving
For paper weaving, cut strips of red, green, gold and white paper and have small hands weave them together into a mat or placemat shape. Glue the ends in place when complete for an attractive woven decoration. Punch a hole at the top to hang as a garland.
Cinnamon Sticks
Gather cinnamon sticks, ribbon, raffia, decorative picks and glue to make naturally scented Christmas decorations. The sweet fragrance will make your home feel warm and cozy for the holidays. Tie ribbon around tree, mantel or door to hang the cinnamon sticks.
Keep Kids Creative
Consider saving your kids’ handiwork as decorative keepsakes for years to come. A star, garland or paper chain from age 4 will bring back happy memories of the magic of childhood creation when revisiting years later. Most of all, keep crafting together – it’s a wonderful holiday tradition!
