Gather Supplies
•Empty glass or plastic sphere or dome, 4 to 6 inches in diameter
•Glitter – choose silver, gold, blue, pink or green for a festive look
•Water
•Vegetable or mineral oil
•Ethyl alcohol
•Food coloring (optional)
•Toys like tiny stuffed animals, beads, candies canes or miniature ornaments
•Scissors
• tape or glue

Make the Glitter Solution
Mix glitter powder and water to make a glitter solution. You only need a few tablespoons of glitter powder and a cup of water. Stir well to blend evenly. Add food coloring if desired for colored glitter. Let solution settle for a few minutes if there are large glitter flakes.

Fill Sphere Partway
Fill the sphere 2/3 to 1/2 full with water. Stop filling once it’s the desired level. Tilt gently to make sure the water moves freely within the sphere. Add more water if needed.

Make Alcohol Solution
Mix equal parts rubbing alcohol and water. This will lower the freezing point of the solution so it freezes more solid.

Pour Alcohol Solution Carefully
Pour the alcohol solution gently over the water so it layers on top. Do not mix the solutions together.

Drop in Toys and Freeze
Gently drop in any tiny toys, beads or candy canes into the layered solutions. Place containers in the freezer overnight, at least 12 hours, until completely frozen.

Seal and Display
Once frozen, you can seal the openings with waterproof glue, tape or hot glue for a finished look. Display your snow globes on mantleplaces, tables or as ornaments on the tree. Gently shake to create a winter wonderland scene inside the glass globe for magical holiday memories.

With some creativity and imagination, making DIY snow globes can become an fun, annual holiday tradition. Each year, kids can come up with new designs and decorations to put inside their favorite snow globes.
